The SABC board has seen new appointments every year since President Jacob Zuma's administration took office in 2009.

In July 2009, Zuma appointed an interim board, chaired by Irene Charnely, for six months.

In December, a new permanent board, chaired by Ben Ngubane, took over from the interim board.

However, barely a year into its term, the board imploded when four of its members resigned following a breakdown in their relationship with Ngubane over the appointment of Phil Molefe as head of news.

In 2011, Zuma appointed their replacements. But it did not take long for another board member, Peter Harris, to resign. He was replaced in January the following year by Thami ka Plaatjie.

Last year, Ngubane and Ka Plaatjie resigned following disagreements with fellow board members over the appointment of Hlaudi Motsoeneng as C OO.

A week later, six other board members resigned, leading to the appointment of a second interim board in four years.

The current board, led by Zandile Tshabalala, was appointed in September last year.
