The call for the "impeachment" of the president by the DA is misguided.
First, it imports the term straight from the US, where it is mostly used, and assumes that the ordinary South African will be able to grasp it.
This clearly exposes the sponsored views the party holds and wants to force on South Africans, including the fact that it is detached from the prevailing material conditions of South Africa.
Second, it has tried to hide from the public the true provisions of the constitution with regard to the removal of a president. Section 89 of the constitution clearly states that a president can never be removed from office unless and until she or he has committed a serious violation of the constitution or the law, or is guilty of serious misconduct. In addition, a two-thirds majority of the National Assembly is required.
There is nothing in the recent public protector's report that shows President Jacob Zuma ever committed such violations with regard to the security upgrades of his home, let alone a "serious violation" of the constitution or the law.
Thus none of the contents of that report can be used as evidence for the removal of the president.
But why would the DA continue with its lies, and why would the media allow the party such massive space on this issue?
The answer is the one that has been repeatedly stated - there is a massive foreign-sponsored campaign against the ANC and our democracy that relies on deliberate lies. This campaign was operating during the presidencies of Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki.
