A Pro Force security guard has won the praise of a Durban man for taking on two armed assailants to foil a hijacking.

According to a report in The Witness, Maganathan Moonsamy was sitting in his car in front of Maxi Door on Henwood Road, waiting for the business to open, when two armed men approached his vehicle and pointed their guns at his head.

“I must’ve been parked there for about five minutes and suddenly I saw firearms pointed at me. I just froze," Moonsamy said.

Unknown to them, a security guard parked in the same area had seen the men approach his car.

Moonsamy isn't too sure who fired first, but after he lifted his head he saw that the two hijackers were down and the guard was taking cover.

According to Pro Force the guard is recovering in hospital as one of the robbers managed to hit him in the leg.

While one of the suspects escaped in a get-away car, the other is currently in hospital under police guard.
