The lawsuit of a former Vodacom employee against the company was dismissed with costs in the High Court in Johannesburg

eNCA reported that Nkosana Makate claimed to have invented the "please call me" service which allows Vodacom subscribers to send a free text message asking another subscriber to call them.

Makate claims to have invented the concept in 2000 while he worked for Vodacom. He cited an internal e-mail in which a senior executive credited him for the idea.

He said Vodacom reneged on a promise to discuss his share of the profit. Vodacom is believed to have made hundreds of millions of rands in profits.

The reasons for the dismissal were not immediately available.
