A Constable stationed at the Sandringham police station in Johannesburg has been dismissed after it was found that he had acted as a negotiator for the Economic Freedom Fighters.

Moses Oupa Sako was identified by fellow policemen and by CCTV footage when he took part in demonstrations outside the Alexandra Magistrates Court on May 7 and May 9.

The demonstrations were sparked by two empty ballot boxes were found in Alexandra on election day on May 7.

“On Tuesday May 6, he booked off sick, saying he had family responsibilities,” said SAPS spokesman Brigadier Neville Malila.

Sako, said Malila, negotiated with the police on behalf of the community.

“Police are not allowed to be actively involved in any political activity,” explained Malila.
