In the photograph Gerda Dias's breasts are padded, but she hopes that once her one-of-a-kind dress is shipped off to the highest bidder, she could pay for a boob op, perhaps even a new car as well.

After an initial investment of R10,000, Dias, 30, worked up to 12 hours a day for 17 days to make the dress from 29,744 loom bands. The Pretoria resident calls it the "world's first known Rainbow loom Starbust dress".

Said Dias: "I have been working at the local Spar supermarket for R11 an hour. I decided that I can't [work] for that. That made me motivated," she said.

The dress is up for auction on bidorbuy.co.za. As of yesterday, the highest bid was R40,000.

There are quite a few loom dresses on offer on e-bay. One of these is a Unique Ginger Space Union Jack loom band dress going for R107,935.
