A metro police officer briefly closed the N1 south at Beyers Naude Drive in Johannesburg on Monday morning to help a mother goose and her six goslings cross the busy freeway.

"The officer found the goose and goslings trying to cross over from the centre of the freeway when he decided to block off all of the lanes," spokesman Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said.

He closed off the freeway shortly before 8am.

"SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) staff who were on the scene put the mother and babies into a basket and took them to a place of safety," Minnaar said.
