Four men accused of kidnapping a woman and her baby and holding them in a shack for days remain behind bars for now.

Thulani Nyathi, Emmanuel Sibanda, Walter Ndlovu and Nkosinathi Nyathi appeared in Randburg Magistrate's Court on charges of kidnapping, child abuse and extortion on Monday.

According to reports, the four Zimbabwean men allegedly kidnapped a woman and her child after she failed to pay the men R1 500 for transporting them from Zimbabwe to Johannesburg. They allegedly locked her and her baby in a shack in Diepsloot for four days before police found her and arrested the suspects.

The matter was postponed until Thursday to give the prosecution time to verify whether the passport of one of the accused was legitimate.

The men are expected to bring a bail application at their next appearance.
