Four men have been arrested for impersonating Johannesburg metro police officers after bullet proof vests and fake appointment cards were found in their possession, the JMPD said on Thursday.

The group, aged 18, 23, 28 and 33, were arrested in Meadowlands on Wednesday afternoon, Superintendent Edna Mamonyane said.

JMPD officers stopped a suspicious looking white Toyota Venture which the men were travelling in.

The officers discovered one JMPD branded bulletproof vest and other blue unmarked vests in the car, as well as the fake appointment cards.

The men faced charges of fraud, possession of suspected stolen property and impersonation of an officer. They would appear in the Meadowlands Magistrate's Court soon.

Mamonyane said two other suspects were still at large.
