Mi Casa are to collaborate with US dance music trio Tortured Soul this week - after years of holding their collective breaths.

This week Mi Casa frontman J'Something posted a photo of his passport on Instagram, captioned: "Sometimes this passport is such a pain in the ass ... specially travelling Africa ... But today I'm not complaining ... Off to LA to go and tick off another one of our dreams ... Work with Tortured Soul! Shooting music video and studio time ... #teamMicasa."

In August 2013, he was more tentative when he revealed to The Times that the band were aiming to go into the studio with Tortured Soul.

He said then: "We're in talks with Salif Keita, Tortured Soul and D'Banj for what we hope will be music that will go on a de luxe edition [of their album Su Casa]. We'll see what happens - we don't want to name drop because that bit us in the ass the last time."

But the studio time never materialised.

His nervy disposition was a result of the mess of the previous year when Mi Casa had prematurely announced they would be recording with Grammy-winning crooner John Legend for Su Casa but it fell flat.

But now it really is all systems go, with Mi Casa having flown to Los Angeles this week to make a guest appearance in Tortured Soul's video for the song Don't Lead Me On.

They will then work on music for Mi Casa's as yet untitled third album.

The two bands met face to face for the first time just over three months ago when Tortured Soul toured South Africa.

The latter inspired the SA Music Awards-winning triumvirate of Joao da Fonseca, Sipho Mphahlaza and Moshe Kgasoane, popularly known as J'Something, Dr Duda and Mo-T respectively, to team up and make music. Tortured Soul are John-Christian Urich, Ethan White and Jordan Scannella.

"Tortured Soul are our icons so getting the opportunity to work with them is incredible," J'Something said yesterday. "I can't wait for the world to hear what we're cooking up with them."

Tortured Soul tour extensively and are a regular feature at music festivals. They have played at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, Bonnaroo, Summerfest and the Montreal International Jazz Festival.

Rocker Lenny Kravitz once described them as "something I'd wake up to on a Saturday morning when the sun is coming through the window . There aren't enough people [like this] singing about love and honesty".
