Blacks' pain, frustration explain statue vandalism

The pain of black people and their denial of admission by whites sparked the assault on colonial-era statues, it was said during a debate in Pretoria yesterday about the fate of "apartheid symbols". Race relations analyst Gillian Schutte said "the monuments reflect the inequalities which continue to plague our country.
