People phoning the Workmen's compensation fund phone number (086 0105 350) have been getting greeted by a message telling them that the number doesn't operate on public holidays.

"Welcome to the compensation fund call centre. Please note the call centre is closed for public holidays. Kindly call us during office hours," a friendly voice informed us when we called that number.

So there you have it, you've been working on a public holiday.

Unless they haven't updated the call centre's answering machine since Family Day (6 April).
