Date my family if you want me
Mzansi Magic is proving that the secret to success on the small screen is love. The channel has tapped into the lonely hearts market, which could explain why it continues to dominate Sunday night viewing both on the small screen and in the Twittersphere.First it was Our Perfect Wedding, a reality show that gives 1.3million viewers a glimpse into the realities of planning and staging a wedding. The show has everything from disastrous decor and beautiful love stories to often hideous attire. Then there's Love Back, aimed at helping solve lovers' tiffs. If the feuders' apologies are accepted there's a proposal in the form of My Perfect Proposal .Love Back and My Perfect Proposal attract on average 800000 viewers a week. But there was a vital step missing - dating. Now Mzansi Magic is to premier its latest reality show: Date My Family in August. In the show, singletons will visit the families of three potential partners. The families will go out of their way to impress the singletons and at the end the bachelor or bachelorette will share a private dinner with the potential partner they chose.M-Net SA CEO Yolisa Phahle said the concept is rooted in the channel's belief that relationships are what people live for."Reality is another type of story-telling, but in essence it is about watching the drama of life unfold. It is sometimes more powerful than ordinary drama as the real-time aspect heightens tension; anything can happen. It isn't scripted," said Phahle.Producers have to contend with what Phahle says is the "fine line between entertainment and going beyond what is acceptable in our society"...
