DJ Donald’s lawyer to call psychologist to witness box

20 August 2015 - 16:45 By Roxanne Henderson

Former radio personality Donald Sebolai's defence team informed the court on Thursday that it would call a psychologist to the witness box next week. The Johannesburg High Court‚ sitting at the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court southeast of Johannesburg‚ was informed of this decision when the defence asked for a postponement.Defence advocate Thabang Mathopo said the postponement was needed because the expert witness‚ Dr Saths Cooper‚ was not available before Monday. He also said the defence would not call Sebolai's sister‚ Kelebogile Lettie Selekane‚ and his friend as witnesses at this stage.Sebolai‚ 38‚ is on trial for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend Rachel Flavia "Dolly" Tshabalala‚ 32‚ to death after the couple fought at his Soweto flat in June last year.He has pleaded not guilty‚ and claims Tshabalala was wounded when he defended himself from her attack. He has told the court that she came at him with a bread and a steak knife after the couple had argued‚ and that she was stabbed during the struggle over the steak knife. But prosecutor Elize le Roux has said‚ while cross examining Sebolai‚ that Tshabalala's death was not an accident as Sebolai had wanted her to die.Tshabalala's body was found in Sebolai's home by the police‚ hours after she had bled to death. She had been stabbed in her lower abdomen - the wound extended to the root of her right thigh and an artery was severed.Sebolai also faces charges of theft and defeating the ends of justice for allegedly stealing Tshabalala's car and disposing of some of her bloodied clothes. He has also pleaded not guilty to these charges. The trial continues on Monday...
