'Cash used for Midlands race'

The money was meant to be used for a crucial waterworks project in the drought-hit KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, but a chunk of it was used to host a marathon. This is according to the Democratic Alliance, which this week accused the uMgungundlovu district municipality of diverting R4-million of a R10-million provincial grant to cover costs for the Mandela Day Marathon, which took place near Howick at the weekend.
