Shark attack on southern Cape coast

A 42-year-old surfer yesterday survived a great white shark attack, in which his right leg was savaged, at Stilbaai on the southern Cape coast. The NSRI said two of its crew members surfing in front of the institute's base at Morris Reef helped the man from the water, assisted by a member of the public.He was flown to hospital in a serious but stable condition with lacerations to his right calf, knee and hip."He was conscious throughout and is in good spirits," the NSRI said.A honeymooning couple from Northern Ireland drowned in Plettenberg Bay on Friday.John Rodgers, 28, and his wife Lynette, 26, were swimming in rough surf.
