SA designs next year's Sheikh chic?

The Sheikhs of the United Arab Emirates could start donning Zulu- and Xhosa-inspired designs by next year. South African designers Sindiso Khumalo and Laduma Ngxokolo were among the nine winners of the first edition of Vogue Italia's scouting competition, Who Is On Next?: Dubai.At the weekend the chosen designers displayed their wares at The Dubai Mall.International celebrities such as Janet Jackson, Ciara and Lily Cole attended the event.Khumalo's label focuses on sustainable contemporary textiles that draw on her Zulu heritage, while Ngxokolo's MaXhoso By Laduma label is inspired by Xhosa knitwear.Khumalo and Ngxokolo will also showcase their work at high-profile fashion events in Rome, Milan and Florence next year. In addition, the winners' garments will appear at the pop-up shop in The Dubai Mall that will open next year...
