De Lille 'blackened our name'

The Cape Town Minstrel Carnival Association said yesterday that the city's mayor, Patricia de Lille, had damaged the association's relationships with its suppliers. "At the beginning of the year the city laid complaints with the public prosecutor against us and the mayor said that we're corrupt and called us liars," said carnival association spokesman Kevin Momberg."We're still dealing with the damage done to the reputation of our organisation. Service providers want money up front now."The association and the city's cultural committee took over the running of minstrel events in the city from 2013.Momberg said that the association submitted an audited financial report to the city in March but had received no response."The report vindicates us."Councillor for tourism Garreth Bloor, who would not comment on the allegations against De Lille , said that the city had allocated R3.65-million to the association for the 2015-20 16 season. The association had asked for more than R27-million.De Lille was unavailable for comment yesterday...
