A 21-year-old man was stabbed to death while attending an mguyo traditional ceremony in Butterworth, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.

After being stabbed multiple times in the upper body, someone rushed him to hospital in a private vehicle. He died on arrival.

The victim was identified as Sambona Nkathazo.

A man of the same age was arrested soon after the stabbing in Mthulu village on Saturday evening, said police spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha.

“It is not clear at this point in time what the bone of contention was that caused the two men to quarrel.”

The suspect would appear on a murder charge in the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
