Seasoned flyers might soon be insisting on being seated in airliners' windowless cargo holds, according to a French aircraft equipment manufacturer that has filed a patent application that takes aircraft design to a whole new level. The plane's hold would become a lower cabin and would be quieter than the main deck, Zodiac Aerospace enthuses in its application. Instead of windows there would be wall screens, fed by cameras fitted on the outside of the plane, to show the world going by."The general goal is for the passenger experience in the lower deck cabin to be similar to the passenger experience in the upper deck cabin," the patent reads. There would be wired or wireless internet connection, in-flight entertainment screens, and air-conditioning.Vending machines could be installed within the cabin walls, providing quick access to in-flight snacksThe lower deck would accommodate up to 110 passengers and have a staircase at each end.The lower deck could also be used as exclusive lounge, bar or other private areas for business and first-class travellers.Zodiac says it will "enhance passenger experience" by making better use of cargo space on airliners, of which, on average, only 37% is used. ..
