Cops released on warning after allegedly trying to blame Hawk in counterfeit case
A South African Police Service detective commander and an intelligence unit officer were released on a warning after they appeared in court for allegedly trying to bribe a member of the Hawks.The case against Major Malesela Tsebe‚ 50‚ the acting detective commander at Kempton Park Police Station‚ and Bedfordview Crime Intelligence’s Warrant Officer Mothakhathi Baloyi‚ 44‚ was postponed toi May 3 in the George Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.Cape Town constables nabbed after bribe allegationAccording to a Hawks statement‚ “a police officer’s relative was found with R200,000 in counterfeit bank notes at George Airport in February this year”.Nhleko won't 'get involved' in KZN cop corruption claims“He was arrested by the Hawks and was released on bail‚ only for him not to honour his court appearance‚” it said.Tsebe and Baloyi then allegedly “approached the Hawks member who was investigating the case‚ pretending to be offering assistance in locating the suspect”.But‚ the “two then offered the Hawks member R4,000 to destroy the case” after which a case was opened and the two officers arrested.The suspects were released on warning when they appeared at the George Magistrate’s Court on Thursday...
