Interviews for Traverso's replacement to go ahead on Wednesday

Three candidates will be competing for the position of Deputy Judge President at the Western Cape High Court‚ which was previously held by controversial Judge Jeanette Traverso. The interviews‚ which were scheduled to be held on Friday by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC)‚ will be held later on Wednesday after the interviews for vacancies in the KwaZulu-Natal Division.Traverso made headlines for presiding over the high-profile honeymoon murder case against Bristol businessman Shrien Dewani.She faced a misconduct inquiry with the JSC after the Higher Education Transformation Network complained about her conduct during the Dewani's trial. The case was dismissed.Dewani was accused of orchestrating the murder of his wife Anni while on honeymoon in Cape Town in November 2010.Candidates who are up for the position are judges Rosheni Allie‚ Patricia Goliath and Andre de Lange. Goliath is well known for presiding over the murder and rape case of Bredasdorp teenager Anene Booysen‚ which made international headlines.The JSC commenced interviewing 34 candidates for various vacancies at higher courts around the country on Monday.The commission consists of 23 representatives from different structures of the government and South African legal community‚ including Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng‚ the Minister of Justice Michael Masutha and several others. - TMG Digital/*Watch a live stream of proceedings at http://www.judgesmatter.co.za/For the full schedule click here. ..
