Restaurant Review: For the ladies who lunch

13 April 2016 - 02:17 By Sara-Jane Needham

Glenda Lederle of Patisserie fame has opened Glenda's - a gorgeous new restaurant in Hyde Square, a stone's throw from Hyde Park. This has been desperately wanting in Johannesburg; a charming and chic establishment for ladies to lunch. It's not twee or overly girlie, but a visual delight, from the exquisite wallpaper adorned with peacocks and bright botanicals to the fragrant garden roses on each marble table. We indulged in decadent Stilton and leek tarts and crumbed calamari, followed by artichoke gratin and duck with waffle. The moreish mains were followed by melt-in- the-mouth choux pastries in scrumptious pastel colours, sprinkled with lavender and dried rose petals. You'll leave with a lingering look, as this is undoubtedly the prettiest (and soon to be busiest)restaurant in town. 011-268-6369The lowdownWho to take?Your mum or girlfriends. What to have? The artichoke gratin for lunch. What to drink?Prosecco in a dinky bottle. How much do I need?About R260 for starters, mains, and pastries. What not to do?Go without make-up - you should make an effort to fit into the pretty surroundings.Whatever you doTry one of the delectable pastries...
