Van Zyl joins hubby LJ in Team Rio

Irvette van Zyl on Sunday qualified for the 2016 Rio Games, making a strong case for selection and joining her 400m hurdler husband LJ van Zyl at their second straight Olympics together. Van Zyl clocked 2:32.20 at the London Marathon to post the fastest time of South Africa's women marathon hopefuls during the qualifying window that will end on Saturday.Ten SA women have beaten the 2:45.00 qualifying time . But nations are allowed only three participants an event.Rene Kalmer, the double Olympian who struggled with injury for much of last year, was unable to force herself into the top three yesterday, finishing in 2:39.44, more than 10 minutes slower than her career best.Jemima Sumgong of Kenya won the London women's race in 2:22.58 yesterday, and her compatriot and defending champion, Eliud Kipchoge, kept the men's title with a 2:03.05 course record...
