UCT rapist case delayed

Outstanding cell phone records‚ video footage and witness statements have delayed the case against an alleged rapist who targeted students at the University of Cape Town. The 35-year-old man‚ who was arrested in March‚ wore a white hoodie‚ blue jeans and was clean shaven when he appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.He scanned the public gallery as he emerged from the court cells.The prosecution asked that the matter be postponed for a month to allow the investigating officer to obtain cell phone records‚ CCTV footage and witness statements to bolster the state’s case.The prosecution also intends adding more charges.The man cannot be named until he pleads to these charges‚ which so far include rape‚ attempted murder and robbery.Three UCT students were among his alleged victims.
