Durban's busy N2 closed as accident victim airlifted

Commuters on Durban's busy N2 highway were delayed when a car overturned and a woman was struck in an alleged hit-and-run collision on Thursday. The national road had to be closed near KwaMashu for a KZN Emergency Services' helicopter to airlift a critically injured patient.According to EMS spokesperson Robert McKenzie‚ six people suffered injuries‚ one of them severe‚ after a car flipped on Thursday morning.SUPPLIED "At this stage‚ we are not sure what caused the accident. But the freeway had to be closed for the helicopter to land."Meanwhile‚ around the same time‚ a woman died after she was struck by a vehicle on the N2 near Nandi Drive in Newlands.Netcare911 paramedics were summoned to the scene by a passing motorist.Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said: "When we arrived on scene‚ we found that the woman had already died due to the extensive injuries she suffered."The vehicle that struck the woman apparently sped off.Police are investigating. - TMG Digital/Sunday Times..
