Summonses and judgments down‚ but South Africans’ debt still high

South Africans are drowning in debt with over 52,000 civil judgments made for debt worth over R362-million in the first quarter of 2016. The 2016 first quarterly report released by Statistics SA on Thursday showed a decrease of 13.4% in the total number of civil summonses issued for debt in the first quarter of 2016 compared with the first quarter of 2015.
