Parliament will on Friday get an update on the “turnaround strategy” adopted by the Central Firearms Registry (CFR) to rid itself of a “sluggishness in processing firearm licenses and renewals”.The Portfolio Committee on Police will “receive a status report on the interventions the CFR has employed towards improving its processes” and the “meeting will provide a platform to assess the effectiveness of the strategy”.“In the recent past‚ the CFR has been criticised for its sluggishness in processing firearm licenses and renewals. In trying to ensure efficiency within the CFR‚ the committee demanded a turnaround strategy and quarterly reports on the implementation of the strategy‚” a statement said.“Stakeholders that will be present and assisting the committee in conducting the assessment include the South African Hunters Association.“The association formally registered its frustrations in the manner in which the CFR handled renewal applications.
