Selebi life of unreal fancy

Art very vaguely imitates life in the new theatre productionThe President's Man, which opened at the State Theatre in Pretoria at the weekend. Touted as a story loosely based on the late former police commissioner Jackie Selebi's corruption scandal, the production barely skimmed the top of the saga that led to his downfall.Instead, the more than two-hour long show takes the audience on a journey into the land of what-if , in which the police commissioner is the last man standing.Written and directed by Paul Grootboom - known for his controversial productions Cards, Rhetorical and Relativity - the drama stars Brandon Auret of Isidingo fame, Molefi Monaisaof Skeem Saam and Zimkhitha Kumbaca of Matatiele. As a result the commissioner gets off scot-free and continues his rise. The President's Man is on in the Arena at the State Theatre until June 25. Tickets are R100 each...
