SAHRC opens its own complaint against racist guest house owner

Andre Slade‚ the controversial owner of the Sodwana Bay Guest House‚ can add a complaint from the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) to his woes.This comes after KwaZulu-Natal MEC for tourism Sihle Zikalala on Wednesday said the guest house was operating illegally and could face eviction from the tribal land it is built on. Zikalala was addressing business owners‚ community members and tribal authorities in the village of Mbazwana‚ northern KwaZulu-Natal‚ ahead of laying criminal charges against Slade.The SAHRC’s Gail Smith said it cannot prejudge the matter and had to allow a fair process to ensue.“The outcome will depend on a range of variables‚ but the SAHRC has opened its own complaint regarding this matter‚” said Smith.Slade's guest house made waves when he said they were not taking booking by black guests or government officials last week...
