Union 'happy' with Pikitup MD's special leave

The SA Municipal Workers' Union has welcomed the decision by the Pikitup board to put its controversial managing director, Amanda Nair, on special leave. "This is what we have been calling for as we knew from day one that our allegations [against Nair] were justified, hence we submitted a dossier of allegations," said Paul Tlhabang, Samwu's deputy regional secretary.Samwu delivered the dossier to the City of Johannesburg's Group Risk and Assurance Services on March 10. The shareholder appointed independent auditors to investigate the allegations to avoid any perceptions of bias and interference. "We are happy. We expect management and the board of Pikitup will find courtesy so that at least we are officially informed about the suspension or whatever decision that has been taken against her," said Tlhabang.Pikitup experienced 36 days of unprotected and illegal labour action in the period between November 23 2015 and April 9 2016.Ratepayers were left with waste for weeks as Pikitup workers constantly refused to return to work even when the city warned that their jobs were under threat.
