Fundraising drive to repair gutted university auditorium

University of Johannesburg alumni have so far pledged more than R30,000 to help repair the auditorium on the institution's Kingsway campus. The venue was gutted by fire in May, causing an estimated R100-million damage. Computer labs above the auditorium were also affected.Former student Advocate Cassie Badenhorst SC last month started a fundraising drive and urged other alumni to pledge towards the initiative.In his message to former students, Badenhorst, who pledged R10,000, said many had been empowered by their studies and could afford to give back to future students.Spokesman Herman Esterhuizen said the alumnis' participation showed their commitment to finding solutions to challenges facing the institution.He said those wanting to contribute to restoring the auditorium could do so through the university website.The hunt for those who started the fire continues, with no arrests having been made...
