Heart attack victims not expected to live are now fit and healthy after scientists regenerated their hearts with stem cells in a trial that could help millions. The research is the first to show that scarring of heart muscle during heart attacks can be reversed.

Eleven seriously ill patients who had stem-cell injections at the same time as bypass surgery have made an "astonishing" recovery.
