Four weeks ago, on a sunny Saturday afternoon, I arrived at the University of the Witwatersrand to participate in a panel discussion. My heart broke. At nearly 3pm, the science campus where the Jozi Book Fair was being held was nearly empty. A few people hung around. Zakes Mda, a veteran of many book fairs, went from one session to the other.
