17 October 2016 - 12:48 By Julia Madibogo

A large number of students gathered at the Johannesburg Magistrates Court where arrested student leader Mcebo Dlamini was set to appear on Monday. The former University of the Witwatersrand Student Representative Council president Mcebo Dlamini – who is also one of the leaders of the Fees Must Fall campaign - was taken into custody in the early hours of Sunday morning.Dlamini will appear on a charge of public violence and not for assaulting a police officer as previously reported.Court 5 of the court was filled to capacity with journalists and students having to sit on the floor as other matters were being heard before Dlamini's.In groups of four and three‚ students kept walking into court‚ before court orderlies asked them to leave‚ saying the Dlamini matter will only be heard just before midday.Outside court‚ it was peaceful‚ with no signs of students. This was in contrast to parts of Parktown where protest action shut down a number of roads on Monday.Wits did not name Dlamini‚ but said of his arrest: “A student leader was arrested in the early hours of this morning at the Wits Junction Residence Complex.” ..
