The storm activity in the area has kept the National Sea Rescue Institute’s (NSRI) Vaal Dam duty crew busy. But instead of being called to rescue people swept away in raging torrents‚ on Thursday they attended to a house fire in Deneysville. They were contacted at 8pm and “crew responded in our NSRI rescue vehicle‚ carrying fire fighting gear‚ to a thatch roof house in Johnson Street‚ struck by lightening that sparked a fire in the thatch roof”.“We assisted the Metsimahalo Fire and Rescue Services and Disaster Management to extinguish the fire and no injuries were sustained‚” the NSRI said.“The fire flared up three times while efforts to contain the fire continued resulting in the thatch apex being stripped bare of thatch to prevent a flare up.”The fire was completely extinguished and deemed safe by 11pm. – TMG Digital..
