Protest at the Freedom Park affecting traffic on N12

Motorists have been warned to avoid the N12 along Freedom Park due to a violent community protest in the area. Johannesburg Metro Police spokesman Wayne Minaar said the protesters blocked the N12 on Saturday morning with stones and burning tyres and by sitting on the highway."We have received a report of cars being stoned by the protesters. They are allegedly protesting because they have not had electricity in the area since Thursday‚" Minaar said.About a hundred residents of Freedom Park participated in the protest.Minaar said traffic was being diverted to the Golden Highway."Motorists coming from Grasmeyer were also advised to use different routes‚" Minaar said.Metro police officers are monitoring the scene...
