Taxi violence link suspected as father gunned down in front of two-year-old

The shooting of a 57-year-old man in front of his two-year-old child on Wednesday night is suspected to be linked to taxi violence in the Eastern Cape.

The incident‚ which was confirmed by police‚ happened in Mdingi village‚ outside King William's Town. Police spokeswoman Captain Siphokazi Mawisa said a case of murder is being investigated.

“Police were summoned to the scene at about 8pm‚ and on arrival they found his body next to the car and a two-year-old child. The child was unharmed and taken to a place of safety. A murder case has been opened for investigation‚” said Mawisa.

At the time of publication‚ it was not clear which taxi association the deceased belonged to.
