Tractor driver loses control injuring 69 people near Pietermaritzburg

Sixty-nine people were injured after a tractor pulling them on a trailer overturned near Pietermaritzburg early on Wednesday.

Paramedics who responded to the accident found a number of injured passengers lying near the near the trailer.

"The exact circumstances of the incident are not yet known. However‚ it is understood that the driver of the tractor lost control over the vehicle while they were on their way to a local farm. Local authorities attended the scene‚" said ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring.

Five people suffered moderate injuries while 64 had scrapes and bruises.

The injured were taken to hospital for treatment.
