Another day‚ another accident involving children making their way to school.

Less than 24 hours after more than a dozen children were injured when a taxi and car collided in Isipingo‚ south of Durban‚ six children were critically injured and four others seriously injured in another crash just an hour further down the KwaZulu-Natal south coast.

In this second accident‚ the children were in a bakkie when it collided with a car on Thursday morning.

"The bakkie overturned and came to rest on its wheels. The canopy from the bakkie was found 50 metres away. Some of the children were ejected from the vehicle. All the injured were transported to hospital‚" said Mckenzie.

On Wednesday February 1‚ paramedics reported approximately 17 people had been injured in a crash between two vehicles‚ with the majority being school children. A taxi had overturned in the collision.

A taxi driver appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday in connection with a back-to-school accident last month during which four people died.

Provincial education authorities have pledged to crack down on errant drivers‚ especially those public transport operators who fetch and carry children.
