Body found on Table Mountain hiking route

A body was discovered on the Platteklip Gorge hiking route on Table Mountain in Cape Town on Sunday.

Wilderness Search and Rescue spokesman Johan Marais said that there were reports of a person missing on the mountain late on Saturday night.

“Our members assisted SANParks rangers to look for such a person without any success. Around 08:00 this morning a body was found on Platteklip Gorge route‚” he said.

“We are in the process of organising a team to carry the body down the mountain. At present the cable car is not operating because of the wind conditions.”

Platteklip Gorge is one of the more difficult hiking routes on the mountain.

No further details about the deceased were available.
