Old Nick Village in Plett‚ the landmark shopping destination on the Garden Route‚ had to be evacuated‚ according to social media reports by locals.

The fire is actually 5 weeks old but flared up tonight and ran out of control‚ they added.
"Plett Timber been burning for 5 weeks now. Same fire that came through our property 18th Jan Friday flared up out of control. "Today wind took it east and it just raced. Three houses burnt. Paws evacuated. The guys are still hectic Old Nick side‚" the Fynbos Ridge account shared.
