If you have car trouble on the N2 stretch between Durban's Higginson Highway and the Sibiya offramps‚ call the police.

This is the message from KwaZulu-Natal police who are "concerned" about the recent spate of violent attacks on motorists on the highway.

"If your car has broken down in a dangerous area‚ call the police immediately. You can call the tow truck after‚" said Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane.

  • SA becoming increasingly violent‚ says prisons ministerJustice and correctional services minister Michael Masutha says prison population figures suggests that South Africa is increasingly becoming a violent society.

On Monday evening a 58-year-old man was wounded by gunmen who attempted to rob him when his car broke down near the Umgeni Road onramp. Last week two motorists were stabbed and robbed when their cars broke down on the N2 near Sibiya and the M7.

Zwane said police would increase highway patrols but could not dedicate a team to be stationed at hotspots on the highway.

  • Man stabbed multiple times after car breaks downA man was stabbed several times on Wednesday morning after he was attacked on a highway in Durban when his car broke down.

"A van could sit there for a whole week and nothing could happen while that van would be needed somewhere else‚" he said.
