Body found near Platteklip Gorge on Table Mountain

Ten weeks after a Unicef associate director disappeared on Table Mountain‚ a body was found in the same vicinity on Tuesday.

Merle Collins‚ spokeswoman for Table Mountain National Park‚ confirmed the discovery of the body but said it had not yet been identified.

“The SAPS have a forensics team on the scene‚” said Collins. Provincial police spokesman Captain FC Van Wyk said he did not yet have any information.

On March 21 the Unicef associate director for human resources‚ Charlotte Nikoi‚ was last seen by her husband and daughter while descending from a hike on Platteklip Gorge.

Extensive inquiries have uncovered no information about what happened to the Ghanaian.

The body found on Tuesday was in the region of Platteklip Gorge‚ about 1km past the lower cableway station.

On February 19‚ the body of a hiker was found on Table Mountain by another hiker. The deceased man had disappeared while hiking at night on Platteklip Gorge.
