The KwaZulu-Natal Education Department is to probe an incident of alleged racism at a top Pietermarizburg girl’s school.

The investigation centres on voice recordings‚ allegedly produced by a Grade 11 learner‚ denigrating black pupils for failing to pronounce her name correctly.

In the audio clips that are circulating on social media‚ the teen uses the "k-word" when expressing her outrage.

When TMG Digital approached the school for comment‚ the principal wasn't immediately available as she was addressing the school.

Education Department spokesperson Scelo Khuzwayo said the department would look into the matter after the recordings went viral on Twitter on Monday.

This is a developing story.
