Deceased man found in middle of N1 highway

The body of a man‚ believed to be in his 30s‚ was found lying in the middle lane of the N1 highway mid-morning today.

Paramedics were called out just after 11am.

The body was found near the Gordon Road turnoff in Mariasburg‚ said Russel Meiring‚ ER24 spokesperson.

He was lying in the middle of the highway‚ under the pedestrian bridge.

Several vehicles had come to a stop‚ causing traffic to back up.

"Paramedics assessed the man and found that he had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately‚ nothing could be done for the man and he was declared dead on the scene. The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities will be investigating this matter further‚" Meiring said.
