A seriously injured man was trapped under a truck for almost three hours on Saturday morning after crashing his vehicle into the back of the truck‚ paramedics said.

The accident occurred on the R21 near the Benoni off-ramp east of Johannesburg.

“At approximately 3am‚ paramedics from ER24‚ Fire Department and Sanral emergency services arrived on the scene where they found the vehicle almost completely wedged underneath the rear of the truck.

“Paramedics could barely gain access to him‚ but managed to treat him until he could be removed from the wreckage. Once freed‚ he was re-assessed and treated for his injuries before paramedics rushed him to Tembisa Hospital‚” said ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak.

He added that it took almost three hours to free the man – believed to be in his thirties – from the wreckage.
