Case of man accused of rape and murder who lured victims via Facebook postponed to July

The case of a 29-year-old man accused of raping‚ murdering and robbing several women he had lured to his village in Qumbu via Facebook last year‚ has been postponed to July 23 to allow the police to wrap up their investigations.

The accused appeared in the Qumbu Magistrate's Court under a heavy police presence on Thursday morning. But state prosecutor Bulelani Bidla asked that the case be postponed to allow for investigations to be finalised.

The case had previously been postponed to allow for further investigations.

The accused was arrested late last year for allegedly raping‚ robbing and killing women he had engaged on Facebook.

The victims were from a string of towns including Mthatha‚ East London‚ Alice‚ Tsolo‚ Ntabankulu and Mount Fletcher.

He is facing four charges of rape‚ three of murder and three for robbery with aggravating circumstances.
