Wednesday’s rain in Cape Town was a foretaste of the week to come.

The drought-hit city can expect anything between 13mm and 40mm between Monday and Wednesday next week‚ according to six different online forecasting services.

Monday and Wednesday emerge as the key days to watch the skies‚ with estimates of rainfall ranging between 7mm and 22mm on Monday‚ and between 0mm and 30mm on Wednesday.

Only two of the websites predict rain on Tuesday‚ agreeing on an estimate of 5mm.

This Monday‚ dam levels were half a percentage point down‚ week on week‚ at 20.9% The city’s average daily consumption for the previous week was half a percentage point up‚ at 542 million litres a day.

The Department of Water and Sanitation has instructed the City of Cape Town to reduce its consumption to 450 million litres a day‚ but so far it has not been able to get as low as 500 million litres.
