WATCH | Motorists flee to avoid armed robbery in broad daylight

A man was attacked during a daylight robbery that was caught on video on a busy road in Johannesburg on Tuesday afternoon.

Police spokesman Sergeant Bonginkosi Mdletshe said the man was driving on Barry Hertzog Avenue in Emmarentia in his black Opel Corsa bakkie when assailants in a white Mercedes Benz stopped him. He had just collected money from one of his cellphone shops.

“He was stopped in the middle of the road. Shots were fired and the robbers got away with an undisclosed amount of cash‚” Mdletshe said.

In the video‚ which went viral‚ motorists could be seen making U-turns to avoid the robbery scene.

Mdletshe said anyone who might have any information or extra videos of the incident should contact police crime reporting call centre number 10111.
